First Birthday Session | Cornwall NY | Baby Photographer

We just love the simplicity of a timeless baby portrait. Cake smashes are a fun extra but we realize they are not for everyone, having a traditional first birthday session can be so beautiful and timeless. This sweet family contacted me a few weeks before their little ones birthday party. They wanted a large printed portrait to display at the party. Typically we book up months in advance but always encourage perspective clients to give us a call anyway, occasionally a spot or two opens up. We are happy to report that we were also able to rush ship their print so it was ready for the party. Prints and products can take 6-8 weeks for delivery so if you need something for a party we highly recommend booking your session a few months ahead of the event.

No one likes being rushed or cattle called, especially when children are involved. We do not have a set amount of time for these sessions, although most finish up with in an hour or so. As a parent I would panic at those 20 minute portrait sessions, what if my kid decided to act like a wild animal? or just cried for 20 minutes straight while I desperately tried to bribe her to cooperate? all of those what if’s that clambered in my head made me hesitate to book. We’ve all been there…trust me.

We purposely only book a few sessions a month so that we can take our time with each client. We take great care in customizing each session for our clients. Plus the more time we spend with you the better we get to know each other. Many of our clients are return clients and we just love watching their family grow.

If I had dollar for every time a mom or dad stated that their baby would not be cooperative! We don’t expect them to be. They are babies 🙂 Every child is different. Some babies sit through the whole session staring at us in a very serious way, some babies think we are hilarious, others will cry and it takes more time to gain their trust. I don’t know about you but I totally find teary eyed, boo boo faces to be the cutest darn pictures anyway…is it just me? For those concerned citizens out there, no worries, no babes are traumatized in the making of these adorable images. Babies and parents are always immediately picked up or comforted 😉 .

I was so excited when mom agreed to change K’s outfit to this beautiful hand-made lace dress and bonnet. I’ve been dying to use it in a session and I think it fit her perfectly!

Snow Day, Cornwall, NY Children’s Photographer

After a week off for spring break we had a surprise April snow day, probably the last significant snow storm of the season. I know, I know, not everyone is a snow fan, but I love the snow. Everything seems so quiet and magical. Everything slows down. June bug is 7, her chubby cheeks are gone and she is almost tall as me (even though most people are..lol). She is 7 going on 24. Sometimes I wish time would slow down a bit, she is growing up so fast and I can’t stop it. I’m just on this ride that’s moving forward and so quickly. Today she asked me if we could dress up and take some pics. umm…heck yeah kid! Let’s do this.

She ran to her room and grabbed one of her favorite hats, a fawn bonnet from http://www.nativefable.com . I grabbed my camera and we headed outside.

Maybe that’s why I love photography so much? My friends and family would say I’m a sentimental creature yet I have a terrible memory. This can be problematic when you wish to remember every little detail of a moment or something you love. A photograph can capture a moment in time, freeze the tiny details and serve as a reminder of how precious someone or something can be. I know it will only be a few short years before she is asking for our car keys and heading out with friends. Watching her make snow balls, spin and run around warms my heart so much. I want to remember this, I want to remember all of this.

Fresh 48 session – St. Anthony’s, Warwick NY

Welcome to the world Lilly-Anne

There is something so special about capturing those first few hours after the birth of a child. I always feel so honored to be a witness to such a wonderful life changing event. The connection between Mama and her baby, Daddy’s pure joy and excitement, watching siblings sitting in awe staring at their new little brother or sister. Looking back, all those tiny beautiful details can be so fuzzy. I wish I would have been able to hire someone to photograph these moments for my family. After 36 hours in labor and only dilating 2cm, I required a C-Section and was in so much pain and so exhausted I didn’t pick up my camera for weeks after my daughter was born. I suppose that’s why these sessions are so important to me. Sometimes I tear up when I’m editing a session, Fresh 48 sessions tend to pull at my heart strings. I love how each family is so different and unique. I love how raw and real the images are. Mama was in a some pain after her C-section so we took it easy. Once the kiddos arrived we were able to grab some sweet moments between them and Lilly-anne. There were a lot of giggles and silliness at this session, it was awesome. The kids were so excited to see their little sister. As an only child growing up, I never had this experience. I sat quietly and watched them interact, taking pictures as they smiled and watched her wiggle and coo in her basket. The little guy seemed particularly curious about his new little sister, asking his daddy tons of questions. Daddy was happy to answer his questions as he held Lilly-anne in his arms you could just feel the love.
